See Rome At Night

Our trip got off to an amazing start as we got offered a free, quick tour of Rome by a kind Italian we met at Heathrow. As we had just a few hours to spend in the City, it was very much appreciated and I love it when people go out of their way to show off their hometown.

Roberto showed us the Colosseum, Villa Celimontana, Arcibasilica di San Giovanni in Laterano - the oldest church in Rome before driving us through the the Aventine Hill, home to the Grand Priory in Rome of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta, for a sweeping view of Rome with the dome of St Peter's Basilica placed right in the middle, through a keyhole of a nondescript black door. The "Hole of Rome" as it is fondly called by the Romans is definitely a must see!

After the little tour, we stopped for a quick drink at his favourite watering hole, Caffe Elmokado. He told us about his life, showed us photos of his girlfriends who are spread across three continents, a bit about his travels and we pretty much just talked for a bit before he dropped us off at The Yellow.

We checked into our room, grabbed a map and made our way to Fontana di Trevi. It had only just reopened after over a year of restoration. We tossed some comes to bring us back to Rome and made some extra wishes.

A few hours later, we boarded a plane to Copenhagen.
